New Job!

So, I know it's been quite some time since I last posted. Contrary to my documenting skills now, at one point I was quite diligent in writing down the events of my life. Of course now-a-days that is not the case so much anymore. In recent years it has occurred to me that as time goes by it really becomes more challenging to do all the things you want, including journal or blog writing. As of today I am going to make an effort to post more because already there are so many events that I have yet to record as to not forget them. One event I would like to share is my first official hair salon job.

So, a couple weeks ago I went job hunting. One of my main focuses this summer in relation to job hunting was to try and find a job in a salon. I didn't care what the job was as long as I got to learn on the side. One day I was driving around McLean going into all the salons looking for job offers but wasn't having a whole lot of luck. Though as I was looking I noticed
how many little/cute salons and shops there are in McLean that I had no idea about. In fact I went into one such salon and found a woman cutting a clients hair. I walked in and asked if she had any openings. She told me that she didn't but that she knew of some other places that might but also that she was having a lunch date with a fellow stylist from one of the hiring salons. She asked me that I could wait for ten minutes or so if I wanted to talk to the other stylist and of course I stuck around. Not too long after the other stylist, Renee, walked in. I was introduced to her and was told that the salon she works at, Eclips, was looking for some new assistants. I made sure to make it clear that I was extremely interested and pretty much jumped at the opportunity. She sent me over to the salon after calling in to see if someone there could meet with me. I talked with the manager there along with another stylist in charge of hiring and was told I had a good chance of getting the job as general assistant. Something that was really neat was that the two stylists and the manager all said that I had perfect timing and that it must not have been by chance. I am glad to say that the following week I was told I had the job and having been working since. I really like it there. All the stylists are very sweet and so helpful. I hope to be able to do my best there, learning as much as I possibly can and one day get into their apprenticeship program to one day become a stylist. I am so grateful for this opportunity and know this is where I am meant to be at this moment in my life.

Multicultural Show Winter 2011

Last week was the Multicultural show! Basically there are a bunch of different associations or clubs from different cultures that performed a little something from their cultures. There were performances by Africans, Native Americans, Canadians, Japanese, Tonga, India, etc. I was part of the Desi (India and it's surrounding countries) association and dance performance. We practiced a lot and worked hard and in the end it all went quite well. We had a good turn out this semester in terms of the audience. It was a blast but I am glad its over and done with. It has really been a great experience being a part of the cultural show since its beginning a few semesters ago. It has been a lot of fun to see that with every passing show people are becoming more and more interested in what our associations have to share. Well, enough about that. Here are some pictures from the show...

Good times :)

Poem Forecasting a Brighter Future

Dark Past, Brighter Future

Ron Kinard (c) 4-2009

with a smiling sun
a new day begins
a new era

lapses of reality
clashing with daily living
make life complete

living with pain
interspersed with pleasure
gives variety

creating a variable
an outlook
awkward to most

living to work
working to live
living for the moment

momentary relapse
a rebuttal of regret
undone chores, untold lies

heart wrenching sorrow
hurting a fellow human being
not being able to apologize

needless words
spoken in anger
too late to repeal

sorrowful actions
repentance is necessity
soulful reprieve

life is too short
friends are too few
sorrow is a burden

things said and done
can not be undone
life goes on

hurting for another
another burden
another day

lost souls seeking
unhindered niche
flocking together

seeking comfort within
reaching out to the flock
safety in numbers

like souls and minds
seeking similar comfort
within a showcase

no one needs rejection
everyone needs acceptance
we all are different

different views
different thoughts
similar needs

sharing the burden
reaching out
acceptance is necessity

forgiven and forgotten
another pain
another day passed

the world revolves another day
life continues another day
the future is our journey

the past is lost
lost friends not forgotten
forgetting the indiscretions

forgive and forget
life goes on
looking ahead, not behind

washing away the past
dust, from the bumpy road of life
to start a new day, a new life

forgiveness is essential
mistakes are made by all
no one is perfect

turning the other cheek
overlooking the indiscretions
releasing the pain

the sorrow is gone
with uplifted heart
the future looks bright

A brighter future in the near future would be real nice.

Temple Square and Provo Trip

So, I meant to write about this earlier but as usual I am a little on the a.d.d. side and got distracted. Anyway a few weekends ago I went on a trip with my two friends, Neill and Moises to Utah. We went to Provo and spent time with Moises' two younger sisters, Virginia and Megan. After hanging out with them at the mall we dropped them off and then headed on over to the much awaited visit to Temple Square. Also while we were at Temple Square we took a little tour of the Conference Center which was pretty hoppin. The only down side was not being able to go off on my own a look around. Apparently do to mischievous children causing trouble they made a rule where you have to stay with your tour guide...lame-sauce. Anyway, it was a really good trip and I had a lot of fun. Here on some pictures of the wondrous trip...

Haha, us at the mall trying to win some dumb game. Lets just say it did not go well in the 4 times we played.

Self explanatory. Us in front of the Salt Lake Temple :)

Inside the Conference Center which was pretty big.

Taking a picture in front of the Conference Center. Moises looks like a dork but I look pretty good, so it works out :)

Pretty Salt Lake Temple.

My friend Neill and I chilling out and goofing around.

A very nice Jesus Statue .

Us rushing to take a picture before crossing the street. Not bad.

Conference Center.

Moises with his two younger sisters, Virginia (left) and Megan (right) They are pretty cute/funny.

Touring around.

Moises looking like a fool while we were randomly looking in a kitchen supply store.

Pretty awesome Vietnamese house restaurant. We went and had pho which was delicious and very needed.

Well this was my trip more or less. I had a really good time and hope to do it again.
